Take this free Enneagram test to find out which of the 9 Enneagram personality types you might be.
Most people, myself included, find their type by reading about the nine types. Do you read about a certain type and cringe a little? I hate to break it to you, but the type that seems clearly like the worst type… is probably your type. (Spoiler alert: The “worst type” doesn’t exist.”)
The Enneagram is different from other personality typing systems because instead of typing based on behavior, it looks at the internal motivations. Why do you do the things that you do? Once you find your core whys (fear, desire, weakness, and soul message), congrats! You’ve nailed down your type.
Personality typing isn’t hard science. Sometimes you answer questions differently one day than you would the next. And sometimes, if we’re honest, we aren’t even self-aware enough to answer correctly.
So, while taking a test is a fun first step in figuring out which type you might be, please use other free Enneagram tests in tandem with the steps I’m about to talk about.
This ensures you get an accurate typing so that this knowledge actually makes a difference in your life (and isn’t just some fun fact at a cocktail party… but, by all means, nerd out about the Enneagram at your next cocktail party).
It suggests that each of us moves through life with one of nine core perspectives, and that perspective shapes why we think, react, and relate the way we do. When you learn your type, you start to notice the “glasses” you’ve been wearing, often for the first time.
And just as importantly, you realize everyone else is wearing a different pair. Your best friend. Your mom. Your boss. Yes, even your arch-nemesis.
That’s where the Enneagram becomes transformational. It’s not just another fun fact about yourself; it’s a tool for understanding yourself more honestly and relating to other people with generous compassion.
